Every year in March, the Gifted and Talented Exam (GATE), also known as the Academic Selective Entrance Test (ASET), is conducted. A Western Australian Selective High School uses this exam as a stepping stone to admit students to its Gifted and Talented Program in Year 7.


To be considered for one of these coveted slots in a Gifted and Talented program, your child must take the challenging GATE or ASET Exam, which consists of four preliminary parts:


  • Reading Comprehension

  • Communicating Ideas In Writing

  • Quantitative Reasoning

  • Abstract Reasoning


Some tutoring facilities consider that providing students with a lot of practice question papers is the greatest way to help them prepare for the GATE or ASET Exam. We adopt a different strategy; we don't begin with practice exams until the pupils have mastered the essential knowledge needed to pass this exam.

Scholastic Excellence offers group and private GATE tutoring in Perth taking sessions in all three subjects. However, to be admitted to any program, students must take academic exams. Compared to typical schoolwork, these tests are very different.
